Bluffton University’s strength and conditioning program has once again been approved and recognized through the National Strength & Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP).

“The Health Fitness and Sport Science division continues to seek out what is best and necessary for our students,” said Amanda Beard, assistant professor of health, fitness and sport science.  “The ERP program through the NSCA is a requirement which ensures our students majoring in strength and conditioning are able to expand their career opportunities to sit for certification exams.”

The strength and conditioning major is designed to prepare students who have the desire to work with athletes through adequate program design, applications of athletic development such as speed, power and agility, and to adequately assess an athlete based on their sport, position and personal history. Students pursuing this major often continue their education by attending graduate programs in the fields of strength and conditioning, athletic training and physical therapy.

NSCA is the leading certifying organization in the field of strength and conditioning, and students who plan to sit for the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam must earn their 4-year degrees at an ERP recognized school.

ERP verifies the content of the material taught as well as the credentials of faculty. Initial recognition was received in 2021. Bluffton’s current recognition is valid through March 31, 2027.

Students who have graduated from ERP recognized schools also receive discounts on NSCA exams, reduced rates at conferences and access to growth opportunities including grants, internships and scholarship applications.
