Speaker biographies

Jonathan Andreas is the Howard Raid Professor of Economics who joined the faculty in 2007. He previously worked as a professor at the University of Illinois, and as a webmaster at the University of Chicago. Andreas got his bachelor’s degree in American studies from Grinnell College and spent several years traveling and working in Asia and Latin America before getting his doctorate in economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Daniel Berger has been a professor of chemistry since 2001. He has his Ph. D. from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and has published various scholarly articles. Contact him at bergerd@bluffton.edu

Perry Bush has served as a professor of history at Bluffton since 1994. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and Ph. D from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. He previously taught at Phillips University in Enid, Okla. He was selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the International Exchange of Scholars, and taught at Zaporozhye National University, Zaporozhye, Ukraine, in spring of 2012. Gerald J. Mast is professor of communication and author of numerous books and articles including “Go to Church, Change the World: Christian Community as Calling.” He is vice-president of the Mennonite Historical Society and serves as editor of Studies in Anabaptist and Mennonite History. He graduated from Malone College and received master and doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the Bluffton faculty in 1996. Contact him at mastg@bluffton.edu

Darryl Nester has undergraduate degrees in mathematics and computer science from Bluffton, and a Ph.D. in statistics from Purdue University. He has been teaching at Bluffton since 1992. He enjoys exploring offbeat applications of mathematics, and especially looking for intersections between mathematics and his other interests, which include word puzzles, soccer and other sports, and home improvement. Contact him at nesterd@bluffton.edu

Marathana Prothro is a communication professor and Life Design coach at Bluffton University where she draws from her background as a professional working in branding, public relations and organizational leadership to help others improve their communication. Prothro earned her master’s degree at the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University and a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She joined the Bluffton faculty in 2015.
