Tibetan Buddist Monks-Lama of Gaden Shartse Monastery, Mundgod, Karnataka State, India, will present “Introduction to Gaden Shartse Monks with Performance of Healing Chants” for the Bluffton University weekly Forum program.

During the 11 a.m. event on Sept. 3 in Yoder Recital Hall, the four Tibetan monks and their translator will explain the cultural, educational and fundraising missions of their 2024 US Tour. In addition, the monks will discuss the traditional sand painting they will create for public viewing at Bluffton’s Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center in the afternoon.

Both presentations are free and open to the public.

These events offer a unique opportunity to learn about the 2,000-year-old Tibetan Buddhist culture and witness the monks’ healing chants and the creation of a sand painting.

The primary purpose of the U.S. tour is to present the Tibetans’ culture, Gaden Shartse meditation-healing practices, paths to inner peace and compassion with all people. Additionally, the tour aims to raise funds for the construction of a new dormitory, or Khangtsen. Currently, the monastery has only 120 rooms to accommodate 450 monks, resulting in three monks sharing one small room. The new dormitory will add 60 rooms to improve living standards for the elder Geshes.

At 5 p.m. the monks will be guests at the Greenhorn Restaurant in Bluffton, Ohio. The event is open to the public with donations at the door. Not only will this event providing personal opportunities to talk with the monks—appetizers will be available and beverages for purchase. A special blessing chant will be offered to all who attend.

The monks’ visit includes other events in Findlay, Ohio. For more information on these events, visit redtornadocollective.com/monks or contact Tamera Rooney, 419-722-7810 or tamera@redtornadocollective.com
