You need the right technology tools to be a successful learner.

Bluffton strongly encourages student computer ownership. Although the university does not require ownership, computing and access to digital information is an important part of all academic programs.

PC recommendations for Bluffton students:

If you already have a computer

  • Bluffton University recommends that you download Microsoft Security Essentials as your anti-virus software
  • Processor (CPU): 1 GHz or better
  • Hard drive (HD): 160 gigabytes or better
  • Memory (RAM): 2 gigabytes or better
  • Windows 7 or 8 operating system
  • Keyboard/mouse - your preference
  • Wireless card if not built in
  • Network cable is recommended, available in the university bookstore (come in varying lengths)
  • Keep space requirements in mind. Will the monitor fit properly in/on the student desk?



if you are buying a new computer

  • PC desktop or laptop

  • If a desktop, Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 Dual Core processor (CPU)
  • If a desktop, 250 gigabytes or better hard drive (HD)
  • 4 gigabytes or better memory (RAM)
  • Windows 7 or 8 operating system
  • Keyboard/mouse - your preference
  • Network cables are recommended; these come in varying lengths at the university bookstore.
