Phillips becomes first-ever BC women’s tennis player to be named All-HCAC

Bluffton College senior tennis player Nikki Phillips (Shelby/Shelby H.S.) has been named to the 2002 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference team. She is the first-ever BC women’s tennis player to be named to the all-conference team of the HCAC since Bluffton joined the league in 1998.

Phillips played both number one doubles and singles for the Beaver tennis team this fall and took seventh place in singles at the HCAC tournament hosted by Bluffton on October 11-12.

“I’m not sure what I would have done without Nikki this year,” said first year head coach Nate Smith. “I didn’t have to look far for a senior leader, and she was a great example and resource for me throughout the year. As the season progressed, she continued to lead by example and I’m just please she was able to cap her career with such a nice win.”

Phillips is a middle childhood education major and has been a four-year standout on the BC women’s tennis team. This was her first season competing at No. 1 singles for the Beavers.
