BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout of Manchester College on Wednesday, October, 20, 2010. It marked the third straight Heartland Conference victory for the Beavers, the first time in school history that a men's or women's soccer team has accomplished that feat. The Beavers also extended their streak without a loss to four contests which is also a school record for the women.
The conference rivals proved to be even through the first half as the contest remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes. The Beavers managed to find the back of the net at the 54-minute mark when Kourtney Lewis (Arlington/Riverdale) took a feed from Maddie Moore (Linn Grove, Ind./S. Adams) and buried her left-footed strike in the right corner of the net past a diving Manchester keeper. Bluffton held off the Spartans for the remainder of the match, giving the Beavers an exciting 1-0 victory.
Bluffton University put up 14 shots (nine on frame), while Manchester tallied 12 (six on target). The Spartans forced three corner kicks while the Beavers finished with four.
Lewis led the Bluffton offense with five shots, including three on frame, with a goal. Freshman Elizabeth Wilson (Circleville) managed four shots, two on target. Maggie Armstrong (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) picked up the win with six saves.
Bluffton will look to continue its Heartland Conference winning streak when it travels to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a matchup with Rose-Hulman on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The contest is slated to start at 12 p.m.
