October 27, 2007
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team ended its 2007 season with a 3-1 loss to Mt. St. Joseph on a cold and windy October 27. After an even first half in which the Beavers (5-10-1, 2-6 HCAC) and Lions carried a 1-1 tie into the break, the Mount found the back of the net twice in the second half as MSJ improved to 11-6-1 overall and 6-2 in the Heartland Conference.
In minute 19, Jan Frazee used Jessica Jester's corner kick for her second goal of the season, putting the Lions on top 1-0.
Nicole Frey (Wauseon/Wauseon) found Meghan Forquer (North Canton/Green) at the 30:48 mark of the first period to knot the game at one with just over 14 minutes to play in the half.
Mt. St. Joseph forced a pair of corner kicks late in the first half, but the Lions were unable to convert as the score remained deadlocked at one at the break.
14 minutes into the second frame, Allie Pirman buried a shot from the far left wing for her fourth goal of the year and what turned out to be the game-winner.
The Lions continued to pressure the Beavers throughout the second half and Jan Frazee collected Erin Rosen's rocket shot off the crossbar and knocked in her second score of the match from the top of the box, sealing the victory for the visitors from MSJ while sending the Lions into the HCAC tournament with a 3-1 win over Bluffton.
The Mount blasted 21 shots in the match, including 11 on target, while limiting Bluffton to only seven attempts. MSJ forced six corner kicks, three more than the home team, and both squads were whistled for eight fouls.
Frey led the Beavers with four shots while Mary Conrad (Millersburg/West Holmes) chipped in with two. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Bloom (Tiffin/Calvert) picked up eight saves in her final match for Bluffton.
The women's soccer team won four of its final seven matches, finishing the 2007 campaign with a 5-10-1 record overall and a 2-6 mark in the Heartland Conference.
