BLUFFTON, OHIO – The Bluffton University volleyball team has been given the 2003-04 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Team Academic Award. As a team, the Beavers posted a 3.34 cumulative grade point average.

“This team has put in so much hard work and they have shown themselves to be disciplined not only on the court and in their workouts, but also in the classroom. I am very proud of them,” head coach Sara Wakefield said.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors college level and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Nominating head coaches must be AVCA members.

Along with Bluffton, the College of Mount St. Joseph and Defiance were the other Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member schools to receive the award.

Last season the Beavers finished at 17-16, 3-4 HCAC. Sophomore Keri Kuhlman was named second-team All-HCAC. The 17 wins from last season’s team was the second highest win total since 2000 when the Beavers posted 19 victories.
