Softball sweeps Adrian in doubleheader; Betts pitches second no-hitter of year

The Bluffton College softball team (8-2) won both games against Adrian College, 1-0 and 3-1 last Saturday at Marbeck Field. The Beavers now post a three-game winning streak for the season. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) posted her second consecutive no-hitter on Saturday as she shutout the Bulldogs 1-0. Betts posted nine strikeouts in the no-hitter. Bluffton College will be at home on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Wittenberg (3 pm start) and on the road on Saturday when they travel to Olivet for their second doubleheader of the week, start time is scheduled for 1 pm.
Junior Allison Lange (Archbold/Archbold) leads the team in hitting with a .483 batting average. She leads the Beavers in runs (nine), hits (14), doubles (3) and RBI’s with five for the season. Junior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) posts a .375 batting average and Betts rounds off the top hitters for Bluffton with a .350 average.
Betts leads the Beavers pitching corps with a .55 ERA and 7-1 record from the mound for the season. She has struck out 68 batters in 50.2 innings pitched, giving up only 15 hits, seven walks and six runs.
As a team, the Beavers post a .242 batting average and .290 slugging percentage. Bluffton posts 23 errors defensively for a .915 fielding percentage. The pitching staff combines for a 1.40 ERA, allowing an opponent batting average of only .139.
