Sarah Betts earns prestigious honor as Academic All-America

Sophomore Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) has been named to the 2004 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America College Division Softball Team. The softball player was placed on the second team as a pitcher. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Betts

Betts posted a 3.71 GPA during the softball season and is majoring in Chemistry with a Physical Science licensure. Sarah has already been named to the CoSIDA District IV All-Academic team and earned Division III third team NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-American status.

She was named the Heartland Conference’s most valuable player and broke numerous single season pitching records for the Beavers in 2004. Betts also holds the career records in lowest ERA, most shutouts, most strikeouts and lowest opponent batting average. She posted an opponent batting average of .146 and faced 745 batters in 209 innings on the mound. The pitcher had 25 victories in 32 starts this season with 29 complete games and 11 shutout victories. She was chosen as HCAC player of the week twice in 2004.

Bluffton ended the 2004 season with a 26-8 overall record and 12-2 in the HCAC for the regular season conference championship.
