Several outstanding individual performances highlighted the action last Friday evening at the University of Findlay’s indoor track facility as the Bluffton College track squad competed in their second indoor meet of the season.
Twelve members of the men’s team and six members of the women’s team competed in the non-scoring meet. Sophomore Eric Amstutz set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 20-3 and junior Jamie Stevens placed ninth out of 40 sprinters in the 55-meter dash. Junior Rick Orr qualified for the finals in the shot put and senior Eric Wilson and sophomore Mark Suter both grew closer to the BC high jump record with jumps of 6-4 ¾ and 6-2 ¼, respectively.
Juniors Ben Noll and Jen Oyer and freshman Laurel Miller both led the Bluffton women’s team in two events. Noll led BC in the 200 meter (:30.47) and 600 meter (1:53.81) events, while Oyer was tops in the 800 (2:52.8) and mile (6:23.21). Miller turned in a 4-11 performance in the high jump and ran a 10.28 in the 55-meter hurdles.
Bluffton has the upcoming weekend off before competing in their last indoor meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 23 at Oberlin College.
“It’ll be nice to have an open weekend coming,” said Head Coach Mark Bluman. “Over half the team is bothered with minor injuries, so it will give us a chance to heal and stay hungry for the last indoor meet.”
“It was another good performance,” said assistant coach Vance Nofziger. “We competed against Division I and Division II scholarship schools, and we are getting competitive quickly. We are pleased with everyone’s performance and we’re looking forward to a great outdoor season.”
