Beavers defeat Findlay in season opener

FINDLAY, OHIO – The Bluffton College men’s tennis team (1-0) defeated the University of Findlay 6-3 on Thursday afternoon. Bluffton won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches on the way to victory. The Beavers were led by their four returning seniors, who each won their singles matches as well as teaming up to win both of their doubles matches.

Seniors Kyle Sprunger (Berne, Ind./ South Adams) and Brad Boyles (Berne, Ind./ South Adams) both had decisive victories in their singles matches by winning in two sets. Then they teamed up to pull out a very close #2 doubles match (8-8, 7-4). Seniors Owen Beck (Archbold/ Saint Mary’s) and Dan Wott (Clyde/ Saint Mary’s) joined forces to win their doubles match (8-3), and also pulled out their singles matches, with Beck winning a thrilling third-match tie breaker for the victory.

The University of Findlay was led by Mike Kantner and AJ Kissh who each won a singles match and combined to win the remaining doubles match.

The Beavers will play next in their home opener on Saturday when they host Capital at 1 pm.

No. 5 - Kanter (UF) defeated Martin (BC) 6-4, 6-1
No. 6 - Kissh (UF) defeated Nussbaum (BC) 6-0, 6-1
Doubles
No. 1 - Beck and Wott (BC) defeated Sarno and Takahashi (UF) 8-3
No. 2 - Boyles and Sprunger (BC) defeated Harter and Jackson (UF) 8-8, (7-4)
No. 3 – Kantner and Kissh (UF) defeated Martin and Nussbaum (BC) 8-4
