Bluffton shows strong play in Virginia Wesleyan tournament

   The Bluffton University men’s basketball team opened the 2004-05 season at the Virginia Wesleyan tournament this past weekend.  Bluffton University dropped the first game to Lebanon Valley 62-42 and won the second game 76-56 over N.Y. Maritime.  
 

   Junior Eric Sweet (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) posted 12 points, and seven rebounds in to lead the Beavers against Lebanon Valley.  Sophomore David Patch (Minster/Minster) added nine points and three rebounds to the effort.
 

   Leading the way for the Beavers against N.Y. Maritime was Junior Scott Bergman (Elmore/Woodmore).  Bergman scored 27 points, grabbed three rebounds, added six assists, and took away four steals.  Senior Bryce Beilharz (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) contributed 12 points, two rebounds, and two steals for Bluffton.
 

   The Beavers will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Earhlam for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.  On Saturday, Bluffton will open up their 2004-05 home season against Heidelberg at 3 p.m.
