BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University men’s basketball team (4-4) defeated Hiram College (2-8) 78-66 on Dec. 18.
Sophomore Michael Anthony (Ohio City/ Delphos St. John’s) led all scoring for the game with a career high 22 points. Junior Scott Bergman (Elmore/Woodmore) posted 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Eric Sweet connected on 12 points and a team high eight rebounds. Sophomore Eric Schwieterman (St. Henry/ St. Henry) posted his first collegiate start and netted a career high seven points.
Bluffton University led the entire contest as Hiram tied the game twice in the first quarter. Heading into the locker rooms for halftime the Beavers led the game 42-34. Bluffton came into the second quarter and shot 56 percent (14-of-25 shooting) to widen their lead and end the game with the win, 78-66.
The men’s basketball team will host the McDonald’s of Bluffton Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29-30. Lake Erie College will play Grove City College at 6 p.m. on Dec. 29. The Beavers will play the second game vs. Denison University at 8 p.m. The consolation game of the tournament will be played at 1 p.m. with the championship game being played at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30.
