Senior Mike Leimeister tied his career scoring high with 36 points but Bluffton College fell 88-70 at 16th-ranked Hanover College Saturday afternoon.
Leimeister was unstoppable in the first half as he was 10-for-13 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and 3-for-3 from the free throw line for 25 points. He finished the day 13-for-21 from the floor and 3-for-6 from behind the arc to notch his seventh career 30+ point game, which ranks third all-time at BC for the most career 30+ point games.
Leimeister was the only Beaver in double-figures and he added a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Marcus Bixler added nine points and junior Brad Boyles chipped in eight.
Bluffton got behind early 7-0 but came back to trail by four points at 10-6 after four minutes had gone by in the game. At that point, however, the undefeated Panthers (7-0 overall, 1-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) went on a 22-3 scoring run to go up 32-9 with 9:14 left before halftime.
The Beavers trailed 48-33 at halftime and knocked the deficit down to 13 points early in the second half, but it would be all the closer Bluffton would get. BC falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the HCAC and will host Mount St. Joseph Saturday at 3 p.m. in their only game of the week.
