Dennis Lane

Dennis Lane started his athletic superiority in high school when he was named to the All-Conference team for three years and Athlete of the Year at his high school in his senior year. At the end of his high school career he had accumulated seven athletic letters. But his college career was to be even more impressive.

By the time Lane graduated, he had the honor of being named to the All-District NAIA baseball team for two years and the district’s basketball team for one year. He finished college with eight athletic letters and received the A.C. Burcky award.

Lane continued in sports when he became a pitcher in the minor leagues under the Kansas City Royals in 1970. From 1972-73, the English major taught and coached at Ridgemont High School, and began teaching and coaching at Bellefontaine High School in 1973. He has been an assistant football coach, head baseball coach, boy’s head basketball coach and girl’s basketball coach.

Lane is also involved in several organizations relating to his teaching and coaching. He is a member of the National Association of English Teachers, the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association and the OHSAA Officials Association.

He enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of Bluffton and it influenced him to attend when he first looked into the college. “I visited several other colleges but nowhere did I feel that the people in the campus environment were as interested in other people than Bluffton College.”
