
The 1965-66 men’s basketball team, coached by Ken Mast, posted the best percentage in modern history, going 17-6 and winning the Mid-Ohio League title. Bluffton’s 9-1 mark in the MOL represents the only league title won by a men’s cage team in the previous 50 years.
That unit holds school season records for most win (10) and best percentage (.833) in Founders Hall, most rebounds (1,317), highest rebound average (57.3), best rebound percentage (.544), highest rebound margin (9.4), highest average for free throws made (20.2) and attempted (28.7). The team put together two six game winning streaks and scored 100 or more points three times.
Two players (Jim Sommer and Lynn Martin) are in the Bluffton Athletics Hall of Fame, three (Sommer, Martin and Mark Froning) are among the top eight Bluffton career scorers. Sommer and Alex Clark are numbers 1-4 in career rebounding. Martin, Sommer and Clark all were first team All MOL that year, with Martin gaining first team and Clark receiving second team All District honors.
