BC vs. Husson preview

The Matchup

            When: Saturday, September 27, 2003 – kickoff at 1:30 pm

   The Bluffton Beavers enter the contest with a 1-1 overall record. Husson College (0-3) travels from Bangor, Maine for the game. Bluffton lost to Thiel College 35-7 last week at home. Husson dropped a contest to Mt. Ida 35-28 for their home opener. Bluffton will host Take a Kid to the Game day when any child under the age of 12 will be admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket. The Coaches

   Bluffton coach Greg Brooks (1-1) picked up his first defeat last week against Thiel. Brooks is no stranger to the Bluffton program having been the offensive coordinator for the past 23 years. He is a 1977 graduate of Ohio University where he was a quarterback and a four-year letterman for the Bobcats.

   Husson is led by Gabby Price. Price has an overall record of 129-54-1.

 

Series History

   Saturday will mark the first time that the schools have battled on the gridiron. Husson is in their first year of having a football program.


This Year’s contest

   Husson will enter today’s game with a 0-3 record. Bluffton will come to the field with a 1-1 record for the season.

Last Week
   Bluffton battled Thiel at home for a 35-7 defeat. The Beavers lone score came when freshman Josh Parrish intercepted the ball to run back 11 yards for the touchdown. Matt Cooper’s kick was good to give BC their points on the afternoon.  

   Husson battled Mt. Ida for their home opener of the 2003 campaign. Mt. Ida won the contest 35-28. Leading Husson was quarterback Lee St. Hilaire who threw for 297 yards. Ryan Lockard led the receiving corps with six catches for 119 yards.

 

Leading the Beavers

   Quarterback Jared Owens enters the contest with 306 yards on the season. He owns a 58.5 completion percentage and is averaging 153 yards per game in the air. The ground attack is led by Ben Dodds who has calculated 171 yards along with two touchdowns for the season. In the receiving corps Mark Gable has 93 yards for 2003, averaging 46.5 per game. Chris Sommers again leads the defense with 22 tackles.

 

Beavers in the Heartland Conference

    As a team the Beavers lead the HCAC in rushing offense, averaging 190.5 yards per game. In total offense BC is ranked third with 343.5 ypg.

    Individually Ben Dodds is third in the HCAC in rushing with 85.5 ypg, and Jared Owens follows right behind at fourth with 56.5 ypg on the ground. Owens also ranks third in total offense, averaging 209.5 ypg. Ben Dodds is fourth in the conference in all-purpose yards with 127.5 ypg. Scott Flathers ranks second in scoring with 18 total points on the season. Defensively, Chris Sommers has 22 tackles which is good for sixth in the HCAC. Andy Tabler leads in Tackles For a Loss with six for 28 yards on the year.

 

Last Season Overall

   Bluffton finished the 2002 campaign at 3-7 (1-5 HCAC). Husson is in their first year of having a football team.

 

Next up for the Bluffton College

   Bluffton will travel to Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio. The contest will mark the twelfth time that the schools have met. Bluffton owns an 8-3 series advantage over the Blue Knights. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
