Bluffton to host Capital University in scrimmage Saturday

August 28, 2002

Area football fans can get their first look at the 2002 Bluffton College football team on Saturday afternoon, August 31, as the Beavers host Capital University for a scrimmage at 1:30 p.m. in Salzman Stadium.

Bluffton returns 15 starters (7 on offense, 8 on defense) from last season’s squad, which finished 5-5 overall and tied for third place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. BC was picked fourth in the HCAC coaches pre-season poll.

Leading the Bluffton returnees are last season’s first-team all-league selections Brad Moore (Norwalk) at quarterback, Jovan Johnson (Columbus/West) at running back and Chris Sommers (Delphos/Jefferson) at middle linebacker. Other all-league honorees include offensive tackle Luke Sorrell (Mason) and center Travis Lepley (Lima/Senior).

Capital, which finished 7-3 last season in the powerful Ohio Athletic Conference, was picked fourth in the OAC coaches pre-season poll and fifth in the OAC media pre-season poll.

The scrimmage is open to the public and free of charge.
