Orr, Johnson named third team All-North Region by The Football GazetteDecember 3, 2001
Bluffton College senior offensive guard Rick Orr (Beaverdam/Bluffton H.S.) and sophomore running back Jovan Johnson (Columbus/West H.S.) have been named third team All-North Region by The Football Gazette magazine.
The team was selected by a panel of sports information directors from around the Midwest and covers the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky.
Orr, a 6-3 275 pound senior, was a first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection this season after earning second team All-HCAC honors last season. A three-year starter and co-captain this season, he anchored the BC offensive line that led the league in rushing for the third straight season and produced the conference's individual rushing champion for the fourth straight season. Orr will graduate in May with a degree in education.
In just eight games as Bluffton's starting tailback, Johnson rushed for 1,096 yards, which led the HCAC. He scored seven touchdowns on the ground and caught 20 passes for 149 yards and another score. He ranked third in the league in kickoff return average (22.6) and tied for seventh in scoring (48 pts).
Bluffton finished the 2001 season with a 5-5 overall record after posting back-to-back 7-3 records in 1999 and 2000.
