Erin Kurtz named HCAC Player of the Week

Erin Kurtz, a senior pitcher (Wooster, OH/Smithville) has been named the softball Player of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Erin fashioned a 2-2 pitching record at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida last week. She collected 25 strikeouts in 25 innings of work and allowed just four earned runs for a 1.44 ERA. She shutout Ursinus College in the first game of the tournament 2-0, a game in which she struck out 10 batters. Erin also collected three hits herself during the week, including a double.

Erin is already Bluffton's career strikeout leader with 257 and her 28 career wins are second to the 34 victories by Crissi (Leupp) Winters '95. Erin is also tied with Winters in career shutouts with three.

Erin's younger sister, Emily also had a good showing in Florida with a 3-1 record on the mound and 20 strikeouts.

BC was 5-3 in the tournament, and will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Indy Collegiate Tournament on March 17 &18. Bluffton then starts HCAC action on Tuesday March 21 at Wilmington College.
