The Bluffton College softball squad wrapped up their regular season schedule Tuesday afternoon against non-league opponent Heidelberg College, and a double header split ends the Beavers season with an overall record of 18-14. Bluffton's 9-5 Heartland Conference record earned BC a #3 seed in the HCAC Tournament which gets underway on Friday hosted by Franklin College.

Against Heidelberg, Bluffton won the first game 5-3 before falling in the nightcap 2-1. BC was without the services of senior pitcher Erin Kurtz (Wooster/Smithville), who sat out the twin bill with a shoulder injury. She finished her regular season last week with an 11-4 pitching record and a .387 batting average, both tops on the team. She is probable for the HCAC Tournament.

In game one, Bluffton scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 3-0 Heidelberg lead. Sophomore pitcher Emily Kurtz (Wooster/Smithville) went the distance for BC in picking up her seventh win of the season. She struck out five and added two RBIs at the plate as she was one of six BC players with one single.

Junior Amy Aschemeier (Napoleon) struck out six batters in the second game in her collegiate pitching debut, but Heidelberg earned a 2-1 victory. Aschemeier, Bluffton's normal shortstop and cleanup hitter, had one of eight BC singles from eight different players, while junior Jessica Spain (Newark) knocked in BC's lone run.

Bluffton now awaits the HCAC Tournament, which they captured last season in the league's first year.
