BC remains perfect in HCAC, sweeps Franklin

The Bluffton College softball team made their 2000 home opener a successful one Saturday afternoon, sweeping Heartland Conference foe Franklin College to remain perfect in the HCAC this season and move to 10-6 overall.

The win marks the fourth for BC this season in the HCAC without a loss as the Beavers aim to defend their 1999 HCAC championship.

Bluffton took the opening game 8-0 in five innings as senior Erin Kurtz (Wooster/Smithville) picked up her fifth win of the season. She struck out eight Franklin batters and allowed just two hits. Kurtz also produced two hits herself at the plate, while junior Erin Cook (Tiffin/Calvert) also had two base hits. Junior Bree Wood (Napoleon) and freshman Anna Steiner (Bluffton) both collected a hit and three RBI in the game.

Bluffton then raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second game on their way to claiming an 8-3 victory. BC smacked 15 hits in the contest, led by junior Amy Aschemeier (Napoleon) who clubbed her first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning.

Five players collected two hits for Head Coach Ty Cook as sophomore Emily Kurtz (Wooster/Smithville) earned her fifth win of the season on the mound.

Bluffton will be in action again on Friday at John Carroll University.
