BC to host Wilmington in scrimmage SaturdayAugust 23, 2000
The Bluffton College football squad will get their first test on Saturday when the Wilmington College Quakers enter Salzman Stadium at 1:30 p.m. for both team's only scrimmage of the pre-season. Admission is free and the scrimmage is open to the public.
Bluffton and Wilmington met in the final game of the 1999 season, with the Quakers taking a 31-28 victory in Wilmington. WC posted a 9-1 overall mark last season, while the Beavers were 7-3. This season Wilmington is entering its first year as a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, while BC remains as a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Both leagues have an automatic bid to the national playoffs. Mount Union College has claimed the OAC bid nearly every year in the 1990s, while Hanover has been the HCAC's representative the past two seasons.
The two schools will not meet in the regular season again, but the rivalry will still be felt in the scrimmage. Bluffton holds a 26-23-1 lead in the all-time series against the Quakers. Both teams expect to continue their winning ways in 2000. The Beavers return 14 starters.
Bluffton will kick off the regular season on the following Saturday, September 2, at home against NAIA power Malone College at 1:30 p.m.
