Hanover to represent HCAC at Hope SaturdayNovember 14, 2000
Hanover College will represent the Heartland Conference in the first round of the NCAA playoffs Saturday as the Panthers travel to Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Hanover was awarded a #6 seed in the north bracket, which includes #1 seed Mount Union College (10-0) and #2 seed Wittenberg University (10-0).
Also in the north bracket are Ohio Northern University (8-2), Aurora University, Ill. (7-3) and Millikin University, Ill. (9-1). The winner of the Hanover-Hope contest will face the winner of the Wittenberg-Aurora game.
The north bracket includes five conference champions who earned automatic bids, including Mount Union (Ohio Athletic Conference), Wittenberg (North Coast Athletic Conference), Hanover (Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference), Millikin (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) and Aurora (Illini-Badger Conference). Hope won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship but is still considered an at-large qualifier because the MIAA doesn't have enough schools to grant an automatic bid to the playoffs. Ohio Northern was also an at-large qualifier.
Thomas More College was not selected for the post-season despite a 9-1 record a #22 ranking in the final AFCA Coaches' Poll.
