Junior post player Elizabeth Snavely was a perfect eight of eight from the floor last Tuesday night in Bluffton College's home opener against Cedarville College, but the Yellow Jackets came from behind in the closing seconds to beat BC 82-80.
Snavely also was good on four of five free throw attempts to total her game high 20 points. She scored the first six points of the game for Bluffton, which went on a 16 to 6 run early in the game on buckets by freshmen Melissa James, Michelle Ray and Kristen Helvey and junior Jen Bear.
Cedarville scored the last seven points of the first half to claim a 42-40 lead at the intermission. There were 16 lead changes in the second half as the two teams battled back and forth. Buckets down the stretch by Snavely and juniors Liz Bock and Kristy Crall put Bluffton ahead by five with 65 seconds left in the game.
Once again, however, Cedarville scored the last seven points of the half, including the game winning basket with five seconds to go to steal the win.
Bear netted 12 points in the game, while Crall and Helvey accounted for 11 each. Helvey dished out a game high six assists.
Snavely is averaging 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the 1-2 Beavers, who were to have hosted Heidelberg College Tuesday night and will play at Oberlin College Saturday. Bock is scoring 12.3 point per contest, while Helvey accounts for 10.7 markers per outing.
BC will be on the road for two games next week, as they travel to Siena Heights on December 7 and Ohio Northern on the eleventh.
