BC downs Manchester for third win in a row
The Bluffton College women's basketball team earned a 70-62 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night over a visiting Manchester College squad.
The win improved the Beavers' HCAC record to 5-3 and their overall record to 6-13. It marked Bluffton's third win in a row and fifth of their last eight games.
Freshman Kristin Helvey (Toledo/Central Catholic) led BC with 18 points, five assists and two steals, while junior Elizabeth Snavely (Defiance) added 16 points despite playing just 18 minutes due to an injury. She did return to the game. Junior Amy Aschemeier (Napoleon) added 11 points.
Manchester, usually a dominant outside shooting team, was just 3-9 from three-point range, but did hit 45% of their total field goals compared to just 35% for Bluffton. BC forced 24 Spartan turnovers and hit 21 free throws compared to just eight for the visitors.
Sarah Irish (St. Mary's, Ohio/Memorial) led Manchester (6-12, 2-6 HCAC) with a game-high 31 points and added five steals and four rebounds.
Bluffton will be in action on Saturday at Adrian College at 4:00 p.m.
