Beavers take third place at Heidelberg Invitational

Winning their final three matches of the tournament, the Bluffton College volleyball team earned a third place finish at the Heidelberg Invitational last weekend in Tiffin. The Beavers are now 7-8 overall on the season.

Bluffton topped Olivet twice in the final three matches, including in three games in the tournament's consolation match, and also knocked off the host Heidelberg squad in three games. BC was beaten by Carthage and Earlham to begin the weekend's action.

On September 12, Bluffton made their 2000 home opener a successful one by topping Ohio Wesleyan University in four games in Founders Hall. Sophomore Mandy Pequignot led the way with 26 kills and 13 digs, while senior Betsy Hook collected 19 kills, 10 digs and five blocks. Senior Alison Harrer had 10 kills and 20 digs, while junior Erica Jellison had 53 assists and 23 digs. Senior Beth Weidus notched a team-high 29 digs and added five blocks.

Through games played as of Monday, September 11, Pequignot's 98 kills and 24 blocks led the team, and she was named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week for the week of September 4. Hook had 76 kills, 50 digs and 18 blocks and Harrer had 52 kills and 129 digs. Jellison had 265 assists.

BC was to have hosted Manchester on September 19 and will be in action September 22 and 23 at the Wheaton Invitational in Illinois.
