The Bluffton College men's basketball team dropped a visiting Adrian College squad by 10 points in BC's home opener last Wednesday night, and are now 2-2 on the season after losing at Ohio Northern University Saturday night.
Against Adrian, Bluffton connected on 19 of 20 free throw attempts in the second half and saw all five starters hit for double figures as the Beavers chained the Bulldogs 83-73. Three of Bluffton's first five baskets came from three point land, as junior Chad Cramer, junior Chris Sheldon and sophomore Rod Overmyer were good from beyond the arc.
Junior center Jeremy Roberts then canned six of Bluffton's last eight field goals in the first half as BC took a 35-29 half-time lead.
Adrian scored the first eight points of the second half to take a two point lead, but BC reclaimed the advantage with buckets from Cramer, sophomore Travis Elsass and junior Ben Coole as the home squad built their advantage back up to 14 with 6:00 left in the contest.
Sheldon was perfect on 10 free throw attempts in the game, including six freebies in the final 64 seconds to cement the win for BC. Roberts led Bluffton with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Cramer and Sheldon both scored 13. Sheldon added seven assists as Coole added 12 points and Elsass chipped in 10 points and had four steals.
Saturday night BC visited their neighbors at Ohio Northern University, ranked #10 in the country, and left the King Horn Center with a 73-55 loss.
Bluffton found themselves down by as many as 25 points in the first half, but a second half rally took that margin to just 12 with 8:00 to go. Roberts scored Bluffton's first seven points after half time and Overmyer hit two big three point baskets to cut into the Polar Bear lead.
Roberts led all scorers with 20 points, hitting on nine of 12 attempts from the floor to go along with his team-high eight rebounds and four assists. Overmyer was the only other BC player in double figures, as he hit for 10 markers.
Through four games this season, Roberts is averaging 22.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Overmyer is averaging 11.8 points per contest, while Cramer hits for 10.5 markers an outing.
