BC has final tune-up, set for GreensboroNovember 16, 1999
In their final scrimmage of the pre-season, the BC men's basketball team put together a good showing against Baldwin-Wallace College last Friday night in Founders Hall. The team departs on Thursday for North Carolina where they will compete in the Greensboro College Tip-off Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Against Baldwin-Wallace the Beavers held their own against the Ohio Athletic Conference member picked to finish fourth in their conference this season. The two teams played three halves of competition, with Bluffton winning the second half 44-40 and the third half with mostly junior varsity players by the score of 38-24. BC dropped the opening half 45-39.
"I thought we improved since our last scrimmage at Wittenberg," said BC Head Coach Guy Neal. "We're like any other team right now, we have a lot of work to do, but we are headed in the right direction."
And that direction is pointing southeast for this weekend as Bluffton will face tournament host Greensboro College at 8:00 pm on Friday. The action will get started at 6:00 that evening as the Savannah College of Art and Design will play Neumann College. The winners of Friday's contests will meet on Saturday for the championship, preceeded by the consolation game.
Jeremy Roberts and Travis Elsass led BC in scoring against Baldwin-Wallace. In the two halves of varsity action, Roberts connected for 30 points while Elsass added 21.
