Smotrila on National Team of the Week

Senior defensive back Jarret Smotrila (Leetonia, Ohio/Crestview High School) was named to the NCAA Division III National Team of the Week for his efforts in BC's 27-26 come-from-behind victory over Mount St. Joseph last Saturday in Cincinnati. Jarret was also named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in his career.

Smotrila had two interceptions on back-to-back Mount St. Joseph possessions Saturday deep in Bluffton territory and both in the second half. The first pick came on MSJ's last possession of the third quarter as Jarret picked off a pass in the endzone. Then on MSJ's first possession of the fourth quarter he picked off another pass and returned it 60 yards. Smotrila recorded six tackles in the game and blocked an extra point attempt in the first half, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Jarret was a first-team All-HCAC selection as a junior and is currently second in the HCAC in interceptions and return yardage with five picks for 95 yards. He is third on the Bluffton College career interceptions list with 15, and he ranks first in career interception return yardage with 251.

Bluffton is now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC. BC will host Franklin College this Saturday and will be at Wilmington on November 13 in the last game of the season.
