Competing at the All-Ohio meet last Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University, the Bluffton College men's and women's cross country squads showed they are moving up among area teams. In the field of 20 Division III women's teams, BC finished 16th, while the men's team finished 17th out of 18 Division III teams.
"I'm really pleased with our progress throughout the season," said Head Coach Mark Bluman, noting both teams have come a long way this season to score well at large meets. "This is proof that not only are the teams headed in the right direction, but the entire program as a whole," he continued.
In the field of 131 women's runners, freshman Kristen Stager finished in a time of 21:23.7 to lead the Beavers and earn a 56th place finish overall. Freshman Heather Showalter was right behind for 58th place overall, crossing the finish line in 21:29.0. Also finishing for Bluffton was senior Erin Meadows in 22:13.7, sophomore Lauren Bistline in 22:47.6, sophomore Katie Gwirtz in 23:24.1, sophomore Alyssa Inniger in 23:45.1 and freshman Maggie Kerns in 23:56.1.
Out of 119 men's runners, freshman Cory Schoenherr led the Beavers with a time of 28:33.8, good for 87th place overall. Also finishing for the men were freshman Jeremy Olson in 29:10.4, freshman Steve Borga in 29:30.5, freshman Jeff Lewis in 29:34.7 and sophomore Jeremy Gaub in 34:36.7.
Both teams will be running at Ohio Northern University Saturday with the women's race beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the men following at 11:45 a.m. "We continue to build confidence for the conference meet in three weeks," commented Coach Bluman, who said BC runners will also be competing at the NCAA regional meet shortly after the conference meet.
