Bluffton College cross country runners turned in several personal records Saturday as the men's and women's squads competed at the Ninth Annual Friendship Invitational at Cedarville College. The women's team finished 11th in the event, while the men took 14th place overall.

All five men's runners turned in personal records in the meet, while women runners Katie Gwirtz and Betsy Yates also turned in personal bests. "It was a break-through race for a lot of them," said Head Coach Mark Bluman. "They should have their confidence up after that," he continued in speaking about this weekend's race in Chicago at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.

Freshman Kristen Stager (Oregon/Cardinal Stritch) led the BC women with a time of 20:23, good for 39th place out of 132 runners. Freshman Heather Showalter (West Liberty/Salem) ran a 20:47 for 50th place and junior Betsy Yates (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) ran a 21:08 for 64th place to round out the BC runners in the top half of the field. Senior Erin Meadows (Bucyrus) finished in 21:27 and sophomore Katie Gwirtz (Shelby) finished in 21:51, while finishing one behind the other were sophomores Alyssa Inniger (Van Werst) and Lauren Bistline (Milford), who finished at the 22:56 and 22:57 marks, respectively.

Rounding out the women's runners were freshman Maggie Kerns (West Liberty/Salem) at 23:39 and senior Kari Suter (Bluffton) at 24:59.

Freshman Cory Schoenherr (Coldwater) turned in the best men's time at 28:06 for 59th place out of 142 runners. Freshman Jeremy Olson (Van Wert) ran a 29:31, freshman Jeff Lewis (Bellefontaine) ran a 30:49, sophomore Jeremy Gaub (Brunswick) ran a 32:58 and freshman Tom Shuggars (Damascus, MD) ran a 34:03 to round out the men's times.
