Bluffton wraps up 2009 season at NCAA Regionals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University cross country teams competed in the Great Lakes Regional championship meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, November 14, 2009. The women placed 31st while the men took 36th overall.

Sophomore Heather Smith (Elkhart, IN/Concord) had the best 6k time for the Bluffton women, as she came in 164th place with a personal-best time of 26:26. Rounding out the Bluffton squad was Alison Janzen (Whitewater, KS/Remington), who placed 186th with a time of 27:20, senior Sarah Binkley (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) placed 207th with a time of 28:47, Kaitlyn Kelly (Middlefield/Cardinal) who crossed the line 214th with a time of 29:15, and Katy Heffner (Troy) placed 218th with a time of 29:25.

For the men, Andy Chaffee (Clarkston, Mich.) put together Bluffton’s top performance in the 8k run, finishing in 186th place with a time of 29:28. Second for Bluffton was Ben Siebert (Celina) who crossed the line at 32:27 for 236th place. The other Bluffton men’s participants included Jeremy Kidder (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) who finished in 33:18 for 242nd place, Kevin Hickman (Centerburg) who crossed the finish line at 34:48 for 245th place, and Robert Hooley (Bluffton) who placed 248th with a time of 35:53.
