Baseball goes 2-7 in Gene Cusic Classic

Spring Break pictures from Florida

The Bluffton University baseball team (2-7) participated in the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla. over Spring Break. The team picked up two victories on the week with the first win over Anna Maria 10-7 and the second over New Jersey City University 13-8. The Beavers will be back in action this upcoming Saturday, March 19, when they travel to Muskingum College (1 p.m. start time). 

The Beavers take a pitching change in FloridaLeading Bluffton in hitting after the first week is senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) who posts a .600 batting average. Moore has accumulated 12 hits, seven runs, one double and five RBI’s (runs batted in) in only 20 at bats. He also leads the team with a .650 slugging percentage and .652 on-base percentage. Junior Tony Gerig (West Unity/Hilltop) is batting .387 with 12 hits and five RBI’s. Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) ranks third on the team in hitting with a .379 batting average, three doubles and leads the team with nine RBI’s.

Freshman Will Gerber (Apple Creek/Kidron Christian) has picked up two wins on the mound to lead the pitching corps. Gerber posts a 5.68 ERA (earned run average) in 6.1 innings pitched and has given up five hits and four runs. Jason Moore and junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) lead the pitching staff with seven strikeouts each.
