Beavers take one game from Manchester in season finale

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Bluffton University baseball team (9-28, 6-15 HCAC) picked up one win against No. 20 Manchester University (27-12, 13-6 HCAC) in their 2005 Heartland Conference series. The Beavers won game two of the series 4-3 with Manchester picking up the win in game one 17-4 and in the series finale15-2.
In the opening game of the series Manchester took advantage of a nine run fourth inning on their way to beating the Beavers 17-4. On senior day, senior Jeff Hinderschied (Aurora/Aurora) led the offensive attack with three hits and two runs scored. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) added two hits and one RBI. Junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) took the loss on the mound after pitching three innings allowing nine hits, eight runs and no walks.
Manchester bounced out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning of game two. Bluffton quickly answered with a three-run home run off the bat of Ryan Fiely and never looked back. The Beavers won the game 4-3. Fiely ended the game with two hits, three RBI’s and a run scored. Junior Steve Bogner (Willard/Willard) added an RBI single in the fourth inning. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) took the win for his fifth of the season. Moore pitched all seven innings giving up three runs on ten hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
In the final game of the series and season for the Beavers, Manchester used a ten run second inning to win 15-2. The Beavers finished with only two hits in the game coming from freshman Tony Moore (Elida/Elida) and Steve Bogner. Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) gets the loss after pitching one and a third innings. Kay gave up five hits, no walks and nine runs; although only three of those runs being earned.
Bluffton finishes the season with an overall record of 9-28 and 6-15 in the HCAC.
