Polar Bears defeat Bluffton 8-6

ADA, Ohio – The Bluffton University baseball team (5-21) was defeated 8-6 by Ohio Northern (12-13-1) on April 19 at Wander Field.

The Beavers came out quick as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Ohio Northern then took the lead off of a grand slam in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 5-2. Bluffton scored two more runs in the top of the fourth when brothers Jason and Tony Moore (Elida/Elida) knocked in one RBI each to tighten ONU’s lead to 5-4. The Polar Bears scored three more runs in the fifth with the Beavers scoring one run in the top of the eighth and ninth innings for the 8-6 final.

Freshman Tony Moore led the team offensively as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI’s and one run scored. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) posted three hits, a double and one run on the day. Junior Steve Bogner (Willard/Willard) and freshman Kyle White ( Berne, Ind./South Adams) knocked out two hits each.

Freshman Will Gerber (Apple Creek/Kidron Central Christian) received the loss on the mound to take his record to 2-2.

The Bluffton University baseball team will be at Hanover College for their 2005 HCAC series on April 22-23.
