Ravens take Heartland Conference series from Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University baseball team (4-15, 1-5 HCAC) dropped three games in their Heartland Conference series against Anderson University (10-5, 5-1 HCAC) on April 1 and 3. The Ravens won game one in Anderson, Ind. 4-1 and both games of the doubleheader at Bluffton 6-4 and the finale 8-6 in eight innings.

The Beavers led 1-0 early on in the first game only to find Anderson score three runs over the seventh and eighth innings for the final of 4-1. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) led the team as he went 2-for-4 in the game with one double. Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) knocked out one hit for a lone RBI. Junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) received the loss on the mound to take his record to 0-3 for the year. Miller gave up 11 hits, two runs and struck out four in the contest.

The Ravens jumped out to a quick lead in the second game of the series as they led 3-0 after three innings. Bluffton came right back in the bottom half of the third to go up 4-3. Anderson then posted a three-run inning in the top of the seventh without the Beavers being able to score in the bottom half for the final of 6-4. Junior Tony Gerig (West Unity/Hilltop) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored to lead Bluffton’s bats in the game. Kyle White also went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) started the game on the mound as he went five innings and struck out eight batters. Ryan Fiely (0-2) came in to pitch in the sixth inning to pick up the loss on the mound.

The Ravens jumped out to a quick lead early in game three only for Bluffton to tie the game at one all after the first inning. Heading into the top of the seventh inning the Beavers led the contest 6-5. Anderson posted one run in the top of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings. The Ravens then hit two runs in the top of the eighth to take the contest 8-6. Kyle White led the team in hitting in game three with two hits and one RBI. Seven other Beaver players posted one hit each in the contest. Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) started the game on the mound as he gave up six hits and retired seven batters. Junior Aaron Krieger (Ida, Mich./Ida) received the loss on the mound. Krieger’s record now stands at 0-3 for the season.

The Bluffton University baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday, April 5, when they travel to Wilmington College. The contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
