NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Bluffton University baseball team (3-8) split their doubleheader with Muskingum College (8-3) on March 19. The Beavers lost game one 2-1 in extra innings and took the second contest 5-4.
Muskingum jumped out to an early lead 1-0 in the first game only to find the Beavers tie the game at one all in the top of the sixth inning. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) batted in junior Lowell Wyse (Camden, Mich./Heston) when he hit a single to centerfield to record the RBI. The Muskies then scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth to win the contest 2-1.
Moore led Bluffton offensively in the game with two hits and a lone RBI. Moore was also the losing pitcher of record as he gave up six hits, walked three batters and struck out one.
Muskingum led the nightcap 4-0 after four innings as Bluffton scored five runs over the fifth and sixth to take the game. Bluffton’s six hits in the contest came from six different players with Wyse recording two RBI’s.
Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) recorded his first collegiate (1-0) victory as he came in to close the final three innings of the game. Kay struck out three batters, walked two and did not allow a single hit.
The Beavers will be back at home on Tuesday, March 22, when they host Tiffin University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
