Baseball wins one at Franklin College in HCAC action

   The Bluffton College baseball team (8-25, 3-12 HCAC) won a single game at Franklin College last week 7-1. The Beavers lost the other two games in the series 3-1 and 14-0. Bluffton faced neighbor school Ohio Northern University last Wednesday and dropped the contest 12-6. The Beavers have one HCAC series this week at home on Thursday and Friday. The single 9-inning game on Thursday is scheduled for 4 pm with the doubleheader on Friday starting at noon.

   Senior Luke Clouse (Rockford/Parkway) posts a team-high .329 batting average. The catcher has seen his batting average rise each week for the past month. Junior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville Sr.) shows a .321 average with senior Kyle Alberson batting (Berne/Ind./South Adams) .306 for the Beavers. Alberson leads the team in hits (34), doubles (11), home runs (7), RBI’s (27), walks (14), total bases (66) and slugging percentage (.595).
   Senior Josh Underwood (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) has picked up the most wins on the mound (5-3) for the Beavers this season throwing a 3.17 ERA. Underwood posts 60 hits, 29 runs and 37 strikeouts as he has faced 234 batters for the year. Opponents are currently hitting .256 off of the veteran starter. Junior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) got his second win of the season last week when he went the distance in the lone
Franklin win. For the game he posted seven strikeouts and gave up five hits. Moore is currently 2-2 for the season with a 7.32 ERA from the rubber. 
  The Beavers show a .264 team batting average (.381 slugging percentage) for the season with 84 errors for a .924 fielding percentage.
