Dr. Jane Wood announced as 10th Bluffton University president

Dr. Jane Wood named as incoming president

“Dr. Wood has demonstrated success in achieving enrollment growth at several institutions by leading academic program innovation, strategic planning, alignment and visioning processes that moved those institutions forward, along with proven success in building relationships for public and private partnerships to broaden the school’s reach,” said Kent Yoder, chairperson of the Bluffton University Board of Trustees. “She is a committed Christian with leadership experience at both Catholic and Protestant institutions and a passion for social justice.”  >>> more about Dr. Wood     

Dr. Wood will be formally introduced as the 10th Bluffton University president with a reception in March after the university’s spring break. More information will be shared once details are confirmed. 

Recommendations welcomed

The presidential search committee met Thursday, Dec. 7, to review early progress. They began the actual review of candidate papers and discussed evaluation parameters that will help focus on the desired attributes of Bluffton's next president. Presidential search profile

The Presidential Search Committee is inviting applicants for Bluffton University’s 10th president. The search profile is available and the committee will accept nominations and applications on a rolling basis throughout the fall and early winter and will begin to narrow the candidate pool in mid-January. Although applications will be accepted until a new president is selected, candidates should submit materials by 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, for the most favorable consideration. Search committee

The search committee for the 10th Bluffton University president includes representation from trustees, faculty, staff, student, alumni, select church conferences, the Bluffton community and Mennonite Education Agency (MEA). Search committee chair

The board appointed incoming vice chair of the board, Cheryl Hacker, a 1981 Bluffton alumna who serves on the fiscal affairs committee and the Simply Innovate campaign committee, to chair the search committee. Search committee members, comprised of Bluffton trustees, faculty and staff, alumni, students, representatives of the Mennonite Education Agency, Bluffton’s constituent Mennonite church conferences and the local community, will be appointed by the board's executive committee, with the goal of achieving a presidential transition during the summer of 2018.  (6/13/2017)

President Harder announces retirement plans

At the June 2017 meeting of the Bluffton University Board of Trustees, board chair Kent Yoder announced that Dr. James M. Harder, Bluffton’s ninth president, has shared plans to retire on June 30, 2018, after serving in the role of president for 12 years. (6/13/2017)
