SERVE is going to New York for a spring break service trip to volunteer at various soup kitchens and homeless shelters as well as help with Hurricane Sandy relief. We are pleased to announce that Amy Mullins has accepted a position as assistant professor of education beginning fall 2013. Amy’s plans are to complete her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Toledo this spring. She holds an M.Ed. degree from The Ohio State University and a B.A. degree with a major in communication form Morehead State University. Amy was an elementary teacher in both Riverdale and Ada schools. Later she was assistant curriculum director at Kenton City Schools and is currently a consultant for Asia Society. We look forward to welcoming Amy to our campus community next fall.
Chris Jebsen has announced that he will be leaving his position as Director of Admissions at Bluffton University. He has accepted a role as Director of Advising and Counseling in Student Affairs at Rhodes State College effective February 25, 2013. Chris has been an integral part of Bluffton University for many years. He served Bluffton as the BGSU Intern/Hall Director and as Associate Director of Admissions from 1995 – 2000. Chris returned to Bluffton as Director of Admissions in 2005.
Gerald Mast published a chapter entitled "The Myth of Redemptive Violence" in a three volume work just out from Praeger and edited by Robert H. Woods, Jr. called Evangelical Christians and Popular Culture. Gerald's chapter appeared in the volume on "Literature, Music, Popular Art, and Merchandise" and discussed such cultural artifacts as Left Behind, The Chronicles of Narnia, Veggie Tales, and Harry Potter.
The OMEA District III Honors Jazz Ensemble, performed a composition by Paul Baransy, adjunct professor of music. The composition, "Why Does Everything Have to be so Complicated", was dedicated to John Stetler and David Sycks, longtime directors of the ensemble.
