Beavers drop home contest to Thomas More College, 3-0
September 22, 2007
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team (1-5) dropped its fifth straight contest to a talented Thomas More squad that improved to 7-1 on the season after its 3-0 victory over the Beavers on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007.
Megan Keck set up a Megan Hobbs header just over 10 minutes into the contest for what turned out to be the game-winning goal as the Saints controlled the action for much of the match. The Bluffton defense held Thomas More at bay for nearly 30 minutes before Emily Hagedorn buried a shot from the box, putting the Beavers down 2-0 at the break.
Thomas More turned up the pressure to open the second half, firing four quick shots before Elyse Burckhart (Telford, Penn./Souderton) and Nicole Frey (Wauseon/Wauseon) turned the tables and rifled a pair of attempts for the Beavers in minute 53.
The Saints continued to force the action throughout the second half as the Saints piled up 12 shots after halftime. Keck picked up her second assist of the match with 17 seconds on the clock when she found Brandi Carmichael in the box for a 3-0 victory over the home team.
The Beavers took only four shots in the match, compared to 21, 16 of which were on goal, for the Saints. Bluffton committed eight fouls while Thomas More was whistled for 15 infractions.
Frey took two shots, one on target, in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Bloom (Tiffin/Calvert) finished with 13 saves for the Beavers.
Brittany Yeggy led the Saints with eight shots, six on goal, and Toria Cross chipped in with four shots.
The women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 25, when it welcomes Tri-State University. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.
