Be A Beaver Triathlon
Saturday, May 31, 2014
The first Be A Beaver Triathlon, beginning at 8 a.m. May 31 at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, will include a 400-meter pool swim, a 20-kilometer bike on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.
Don't feel up to completing the full triathlon? Options include completing one leg of the event or forming a team with each member completing one discipline. Volunteers are also needed to work the event.
Participants may register online through May 29. Cost for individuals is $60; $100 for relay teams. On-site registration will be available at the pool on May 30, with prices $10 higher, and from 6-7:30 a.m. on the day of the triathlon, with prices $20 higher. Individuals may also register on site for any one of the three triathlon disciplines, at a cost of $25.
Register online by Wednesday, April 30, for early registration pricing.
Participants who register by May 23 will receive an event shirt. Finishers' mementos will be presented, along with awards to the top three finishers in each age group. There will be professional chip timing, with results available online afterward.
You can also support the triathlon in other ways if you don't wish to be a participant. The company 3 Disciplines Racing will do set up and timing, etc. but we need to supply manpower on the day of the event. A minimum of 40 volunteers are needed to work the event throughout the morning. Contact Coach Karen Brandt to volunteer.
In addition, a number of Bluffton athletes will be returning to campus to work the event and will need housing for Friday, May 30, as the residence halls are closed at that time. Contact Coach Brandt to offer your guest room or couch.
Proceeds will help the university's cross country and track and field teams cover their costs to attend out-of-state invitational meets.
Community partners for the event are the village of Bluffton and the community pool.
