Bluffton at Capital Invitational
Jason Fisher breaks his own school record in the weight throw

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's and women's track team traveled to Capital University on Friday, January 25, 2008, to participate in the Rev. Mike Hout Invitational. The women's team scored 15 points for a ninth place finish, while the men's team scored 31 points, placing eighth out of eight.
Senior Sarah Humphrey (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) scored eight points for Bluffton, placing second in the women's 500 meter run with a time of 19:40.74. Ashley Smith (Delta/Delta) took fifth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.66, picking up four points. Megan Koch (Elida/Elida) picked up three points for her team by finishing sixth in the 400 meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 1:06.13.
Leading the men with a total of 11 points was sophomore Jason Fisher (Rockford/Parkway) who placed third in the weight throw (14.03 meters) and fourth in the shot put (14.18 meters). Fisher's performance in the weight throw broke his own school record set a year ago.
The 4x200 squad, consisting of Rex Brown (Wauseon/Pettisville), Zach Kerber (Lima/Elida), Steve Havens (Fremont/Lakota) and Robert Johnson (Columbus/Marion-Franklin), placed sixth overall and earned six points for the Beavers. Also faring well for Bluffton was the 4x400 team which finished in 3:49.99 and picked up four points in the process. Members of the 4x400 team included Tyler Fairchild (Toledo/Whitmer), Ben Althaus (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Mike Timpe (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York) and Collin Wagner (Pettisville/Pettisville).
Mike Timpe took fifth in the men's high jump (1.68 meters), scoring four points. Jared Auer (Curtice/Genoa Local) also grabbed four points with a fifth place finish in the shot put (12.35 meters). Sophomore Ben Siebert (Celina/Celina) scored one point for Bluffton with a ninth place finish in the 1000 meter run (3:09.62). Picking up another point for the Beavers was Collin Wagner who ran a 39.24 in the 300 meters.
Bluffton returns to action on Friday, February 8, 2008, when the Beavers travel to Ada for the ONU Series Meet. The meet is slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
