The Bluffton College track and field team was in action on Friday night, Feb. 15 at the King Horn Sports Center at Ohio Northern University. The BC women took tenth place in the meet, while the men finished seventh.
"This meet was kind of up and down, but overall it was good," said head coach Derek Stanley. "Indoor is almost over and the improvement I am seeing is very encouraging."
For the women, Jana Hammer had a good 55m dash finishing in 7.99 and also ran well in the 300m dash, winning her heat with a 46.73. Amanda Habegger won her heat of the 400m dash with a time of 65.05 and took third in her heat of the 55m high hurdles with a time of 10.24, the first time she has run the race this year.
Katie Gwritz, Rachael Szydlowski, and Jennifer Neidermier all ran the 1500m run and finish in 5:35.59, 5:43.87, and 5:49.85, respectively. The distance medley relay team of Szydlowski, Habegger, Rachel Noirot, and Gwirtz finished third, running a time of 14:54.25. Finally, Michelle Bailey posted her second best throw of the year in the shot put, heaving a 32-10.25 throw.
On the men's side, Ryan Nusbaum and Adam Super led off the meet in the 55m dash running 6.90 and 6.98 respectively. Super came back with Aaron Pfliederer to run the 300m dash, finishing in 39.98 and 44.97, respectively. Chris Mackey had a good day in the 500m dash running his best time of the year with a 69.32, good for sixth place overall. Steve Borga lowered his career-best effort in the 5000m run by 11 seconds with a 17:15.99.
Troy Baumer ran the 55m high hurdles in 8.97, while Pfliederer finished that event in 9.50. The 4x200 team of Nusbaum, Mackey, Super and Baumer finished fifth overall with a time of 1:36.80. Clint Dillon tied for first place in the pole vault, clearing 13-5.25. Finally, in the men's shot put Travis Lepley led the throwers with a toss of 39-3.75, while Kevin Ross (38-6.25) and Kevin Foster (30-7) also competed in that event for the Beavers.
