Marygrove scores 6-3 victory over Beavers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team struggled in the first
half on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, allowing Marygrove College to put in three unanswered
goals. Bluffton's second half proved to be much stronger as the Beavers matched Marygrove
goal for goal in the 6-3 setback at the hands of the Mustangs.
The visitors tallied their first goal on a penalty kick from Jordan Berry just 22:49 into the game. Marygrove quickly added another score by Berry just seven
minutes later; the goal was set up by Ali Fardoun. Marygrove went up 3-0 on a Jad El-Zein score less than two minutes before the end of the half.
The Beavers came out of the break with a chip on their shoulders, quickly adding some
offense of their own. Michel Timpe (Swanton) connected just three minutes into the second half. Marygrove punched in
another goal from El-Zein at the 60:55 mark before Bluffton quickly responded with
a penalty kick goal from senior Jacob Graham (Gomer/Elida). Marygrove did not waste any time after the Graham tally, as they added
one of their own just 30 seconds later.
Bluffton added another goal thanks to a deep shot by Kevin Williams (Pandora/Pandora-Gilboa), cutting the deficit to 5-3 with just over three minutes
to play. The Mustangs put the match on ice following another goal from El-Zein with
just 48 seconds remaining, making the final score 6-3.
Bluffton University fired 20 shots (nine on target), while Marygrove put up 18. The
Beavers forced only one corner kick, while the Mustangs countered with four. Junior
Dan Saville (Toledo/Central Catholic) recorded four saves in the loss. Timpe and Graham both
led the Beaver offense with four shots, three on target for Timpe and two on frame
The Bluffton men will travel to Mount St. Joseph for their first Heartland Conference
matchup on Saturday, September 25. The contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
