Fighting Muskies too much for Beavers
September 28, 2006
NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team travelled to face the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum on Wednesday, September 27, 2006. In a game marked by early scoring, the Beavers dropped to 0-7 with their 5-2 loss at Muskingum.
Down 1-0 just five minutes into the contest, Bluffton knotted the contest when Justin Rohrer (Millersburg/West Holmes) headed a Brandon Olterman (Camden/Preble Shawnee) corner kick past the Muskie goalkeeper in the sixth minute. Thirteen minutes later, Rohrer gave the Beavers a one goal advantage when he freed himself on the left side of the field and hit paydirt.
Bluffton maintained its lead until the 37th minute of the first half when Tim Marcinek took a Lala Quiroz pass and found the back of the net. Marcienek got behind the Beaver defense again seven minutes later when he put Muskingum up for good late in the first half. The Beavers went to the break down 3-2 and never recovered.
The Muskies opened the second stanza with their fourth goal off a deep shot that hit the cross bar. Another Muskingum score four minutes later ended the scoring as Bluffton fell, 5-2.
Muskingum fired 32 shots, compared to just 12 for the Beavers. Ryan Thomas (Jamestown/Greenview) collected nine saves in the contest.
Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, September 30, when it travels to face HCAC rival Hanover College. The Beavers are scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m.
