October 9, 2000

Bluffton College senior Shawn Goetz (Lima/Bath HS) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Bluffton's 33-0 homecoming victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

Goetz was all over the field as he recorded seven tackles (including one for loss), an interception, a pass break-up and a blocked field goal. The tackle for loss was a hit on the punter 34 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Goetz has 29 tackles and two interceptions so far this season. He was a Heartland Conference honorable mention selection last season after recording four interceptions and 46 tackles. He was also an HCAC Player of the Week honoree once last season.

The shut out was the second straight for Bluffton, which is now 4-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the HCAC. The Beavers will travel to Hanover College on Saturday for a key Heartland Conference match up.
