Bluffton College came up short on their bid to take home field advantage in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament next weekend, as Hanover College swept a double header from BC Sunday afternoon at Sears Field.

The sweep came just one day after Bluffton split a double header with the league's third place team, Mount St. Joseph. BC now owns a 6-8 HCAC record and will travel to either Defiance or Hanover on Friday for the first round of the HCAC tournament. The semi-finals and finals of the tourney are set to be held at Anderson University on May 11-14.

On Sunday, Hanover won the first game 6-1 and then took the second game 12-3.

In the first game, Hanover scored three runs each in the second and fifth innings, while Bluffton's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Dustin Kreis and Eric Metz doubled for BC in the seventh inning to produce the run, but with just one hit the previous six innings the Beavers did not score. Eric Humpal and Bill Bechtel each threw three-plus innings on the mound.

Hanover's Joey Matis pitched a complete game three-hitter to lead the Panthers to the win.

In the second game, Hanover broke open a 2-1 game in the fourth inning with nine runs en route to a 12-3 victory. BC notched five singles, but HC's Adam Christie fanned six hitters in six innings of work and allowed just four hits to earn the win.

Bluffton ends the regular season at 12-17 overall and 6-8 in the HCAC.
